Bret Easton Ellis, schrijver van o.a.

Welke betekenis kennen we Patrick Bateman toe anno 2019?

The political developments in United States, Kanye West and Donald Trump, self-censorship and morality. Bret Easton Ellis, the famous and controversial writer of American Psycho and Less Than Zero, speaks about his new book White, free speech and politics and morality in the US.

Bret Easton Ellis is most famous for his era-defining novel American Psycho and its terrifying anti-hero, Patrick Bateman. With that book, and many times since, Ellis proved himself to be a fearless provocative writer. In White, his first work of non-fiction, Ellis offers a wide-ranging exploration of what the hell is going on right now.

In this Brainwash Special moderator Sarah Sluimer speaks with the American author Bret Easton Ellis about his new book White, his writing career, the political situation in America, morality and the controversy around his views and opinions.

What is the relevance of Patrick Bateman today? What made Ellis switch to non-fiction at this point in his career? Why does he think artistic freedom is under pressure in the US? And why does he consider identity politics as a toxic dead end? Expect an answer on these, and many more questions.
